About me

I discovered data science in the aftermath of the Cambridge Analytica scandal. Horrified by how data had been used, I began researching the field and found a discipline with far-reaching consequences — both positive and negative. What struck me most was how many of the analytical and problem-solving skills I had developed during my MSc in Astrophysics could be applied here. That realisation inspired me to pursue a master’s in Data Science and Analytics at Brunel University London.

After graduating, I joined the debt collection space as their sole data scientist. It was a steep learning curve, teaching me first-hand that data science isn’t just about technical skills — it’s also about navigating business needs, stakeholder communication, and data quality. After 18 months, I moved to Anmut Consulting’s R&D team, where I contributed to building products and frameworks designed to help organisations understand and extract more value from their data.

My technical toolkit includes Python and its core libraries (scikit-learn, pandas, TensorFlow, NumPy), SQL (PostgreSQL and MS SQL), and Power BI. I enjoy combining creativity with rigour, and I place a strong emphasis on ethical approaches to data science. For me, data’s real power lies in its potential to shape how we live, work, and make decisions — and in the smart, thoughtful people it attracts.

I’m currently looking for my next opportunity, ideally one where I can work with larger datasets and models that require robust engineering: ensuring that the data is sound, the model is fit for purpose, and the solution delivers value at the cadence required.

Outside of work, I’m a keen reader, a sabre fencer, and a budding runner. These activities keep me curious, competitive, and grounded — qualities I also bring into my professional life.

Previous employment

Research Scientist, Anmut Consulting Ltd

November 2022 – July 2025

I was employed as research scientist at Anmut’s R&D team. During my time there I was involved with a range of projects to develop new methods to calculating the value of an organisations data. This included conceptual work, using machine learning and statistical methods to develop new methods and delivering client work.

Outside of the core of my role I also

  • Acted as the team’s agile champion, implementing changes to our project and sprint planning workflows, which resulted in a ~30%
  • Established an AI newsletter to keep all areas of the business up to date on new developments and tools
  • Maintained relationships with academics by presenting proof-of-concepts during knowledge sharing sessions
Junior Data Scientist, Qualco UK

May 2021 – November 2022

Once the covid lockdowns where over I started at Qualco UK as their sole data scientist. The day to day of my role was focused on introducing data science to the organisation. This involved engaging with all areas of the business to scope out areas where a data science solution could be appropriate and giving technical steer.

A couple such areas were the companies’ PowerBI reports would fail to refresh, development of a propensity to pay score and a collections forecast.

Education

Data Science and Analytics, Brunel University of London

September 2018 – September 2019

After my time at Aberstwyth I worked towards a second masters in Data Science and Analytics at Brunel university. While there I learnt more Statistics and coding and the workflow of a data scientist (EDA, Modelling, Evaluation) and a wide range of techniques which I applied in my dissertation titled “Mining Data on Board Game Experience to Predict Successful Game Mechanics”.

Outside of studying I also was member of the university fencing team.

Astrophysics, Aberystwyth University

September 2014 – July 2018

At Aberystwyth I read Astrophysics on their integrated master’s course. As well as physics focused modules I also learnt statistics, coding, linear algebra, calculus.

While studying I was also a core member of the university fencing club, holding various committee positions over my time at university. I was Armourer, Treasurer and President from my second year to fourth year respectively. I was also on the Mens 1st team.

My third year and fourth year dissertations were 3D visualisations of paradoxes in special relativity and Search for GeO and MnO molecules in space respectively.
